Team Visioning

When developing a compelling vision a pivotal factor is to clearly define the date you’re visioning. Seems obvious but most don’t.

Far too many leaders think that visioning is only about the distant future. However if you want to move forward quickly yet safely, as well as scanning the horizon it’s critical to see more clearly what’s just ahead.

So before the break re-energise and inspire your team forward by visioning 2021. However keep in mind it’s important to acknowledge the challenges so far and that still lie ahead – while lifting and inspiring those around you.

This is easier said than done. Carefully guide your team’s thinking and conversation from the known to the unknown, flipping from the challenging to the uplifting.

As a result you’ll be far more aligned and connected as a team than if you remain in the unknown, or try to rush to an inspiring vision without first acknowledging past and present realities.

Sequencing this vision development over a session or a series of conversations looks like…

  1. Shifts – What changes have we experienced in 2020?

  2. Impacts – What have some of the impacts of this been? [Let this run to the negative, within limits]

  3. Gains – What have been some of the unexpected benefits of these shifts? [Keep guiding to the positive]

  4. Vision – What inspiring new possibilities might this create for us in 2021?

Remember vision means to see. A picture is worth a thousand words.

So don’t just talk about the future. Create it!
