Which might seem like an odd statement for a Futurist to make. Almost defeatist. Causing you to wonder if perhaps I could do with a re-energising break?
It’s actually the certainty that the future never arrives – that by definition it always remains… in the future – that I find to be a source of inspiration and energy.
Whether it’s a holiday break at the end of the year, or a flex in thinking at work – fresh inspiration depends on new perspectives. Discovering that a future we might fear doesn’t have to be.
Just as scenario planning involves evaluating the alternate realities of possible, plausible, probable and preferable futures – we can give ourselves permission to apply the same framing in our own personal reflecting and planning.
Realising that just because something seems likely, doesn’t mean it has to be.
Because the people who change the world are the dreamers.
Giving themselves space to imagine what might be.
Taking a break from planning the future, to reconnect with the present.
