Futureworking In Extraordinary Times
The key to extraordinary Mindflexing is to keep exploring possibilities until you reach a point the change feels inspiringly obvious.
Causing you to think:
Imagine the loss if we hadn’t been forced to adapt?!
When the world shifts, we can also choose to shift.
Deliberately rewiring our thought patterns. Rather than feeling stuck, looking down the road, wondering what lies ahead.
Asking others to give us greater certainty. When in many ways, it simply doesn’t exist.
The alternative is to venture forward into the unknown. Fully acknowledging the challenges of adaption, while channelling the negative energy created by stress into the inspired energy of greater possibilities.
So why isn’t this the natural response of most – and how can you energise and inspire others… and yourself… forward?
At a neuroscience level our thoughts travel across well-worn synaptic connections. When faced with a familiar situation, our neurotransmitters fire in an established pattern, leading to a predictable response.
However when faced with the unexpected, unless both our thoughts and actions are ready to flex in new uncertain directions, the result is inertia or regression rather than progress forward.
In other words, a mindset of the past rather than a Mindflex for the future.
Making the switch requires deliberately embracing moments where the usual is no longer possible. However the ability to inspire others forward with you, requires more than the shift from Business as Usual to Business as Unusual.
Unusual is different. Which means at times it can also provoke a sense of the unwanted.
So instead transform the ordinary into the…
Extraordinary.
For example last week as it rapidly became clear we could no longer launch next month’s Futurework leadership programme with the scheduled two-day in person event, we had to rapidly flex. With the obvious shift being to reverse the order, beginning online then concluding the ten-week programme in-person.
While this made practical and logical sense – it wasn’t initially a particularly inspiring shift. Until we explored further, venturing beyond the ordinary, discovering greater possibilities that otherwise would never have existed.
Shifting from a physical space to a digital space meant the start of the programme was no longer constrained by physical limits. Meaning on day two we could now open one of the sessions to others across the organisations to energise and inspire forward. While enabling the cohort of leaders to immediately apply their new Futurework learnings in a digitally inclusive and collaborative environment.
Not delaying also meant that in a time of significant change and adaption, the cohort would now be able to support and guide each other forward. Actively sharing the very latest real-world insights across their organisations, overcoming immediate challenges faced through the experiences and learnings of peers.
Then with the two-day in-person experience now happening later in the year, it had been transformed into the ideal opportunity for each leader to have the space, guidance and fresh perspective for visioning and strategising into the new year ahead.
The key to extraordinary Mindflexing is to keep thinking, exploring possibilities until you reach a point the change feels inspiringly obvious. Causing you to think: Imagine the loss if we hadn’t been forced to adapt?! That not changing would have been such a missed opportunity.
