Futures not Future

What kind of future thinking do you do: Future Thinking or Futures Thinking?

We are all futurists.

Thinking about the future. Making plans for our future. Creating the future.

The question is – what kind of future thinking do you do:

Future Thinking

or

Futures Thinking?

As a profession, the formal practice is known as Futures Thinking.

Reminding us that here in the singular present, multiple futures are always possible. With the ‘s’ of Futures reminding us of the importance of holding space for yourself and others to imagine, explore and develop.

Head down, no time to think, plans in place, can be right for tactically delivering in the present. Head up, space to think, plans open to change, is right for strategically delivering the future.

Futures with an ‘s’ also reminds us of the importance of scenario planning. Strategically exploring multiple futures from the possible, to the plausible, to the probable – to discover your preferred future.
