Changing Change
Or so it’s often said. In a way that implies this is an indisputable fact.
Often said by people trying to preserve the status quo.
I can prove that the reverse is true. That we can thrive on change. That it’s a fundamental, vital, energising part of life.
As natural as breathing in. Then out.
What line are you now reading? Is it the same line you were reading just a moment ago? Or have you changed?
Moving forward.
With determination and purpose. An end goal in mind. Creating valuable progress by guiding others forward into a greater future. With new possibilities. New ways of working.
Approached in the right way, change can be energising. Uplifting.
As a Futurist, I’ve learned that the key is to first focus on making the unfamiliar familiar. Transforming disruptive and threatening revolutions, into recognisable and empowering evolutions.
Instead of creating stress and overwhelm with talk of fast-moving change, exponential impacts, risks of being left behind… strategically refocus your energy and that of your team on the inspiring possibilities ahead. Leading with vision, to guide others who can’t see their way forward through the concerns and confusion of today.
How? By relating the unknown and uncertain future ahead to our known and certain past.
For example, while a future of AI agents is often presented as a radical workforce-impacting shift, in some ways the evolution’s not that different from earlier changes. Like the helpful email out-of-office responders we’ve already learned to depend on, now with a greater range of abilities.
Advancing our capabilities. Changing our future of work.
Changing today.
